Malang Sarr is now able to join Monaco on a loan with a purchase option thanks to Chelsea.

The 23-year-old center back will join the Ligue 1 team for the 2022–23 campaign, with Monaco having the option to extend the agreement for a rumored €15 million (£12.7 million).

According to numerous sources, Monaco’s purchase option could become necessary if specific requirements are reached.

Sarr joined Chelsea on a free transfer in August 2020 but was soon sent out on loan to Porto, where he made 19 appearances across all competitions.

For the 2021–22 campaign, he returned to Stamford Bridge and joined the first team squad, appearing 21 times across all competitions, albeit just eight of those were in the Premier League.
Sarr, who previously was regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe when his breakthrough as a youngster at Nice, has returned to Ligue 1 with his move to Monaco after a two-year sabbatical.
Following Thomas Didillon, Breel Embolo, and Takumi Minamino, Sarr is Monaco’s fourth acquisition of the transfer window.
Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to PSV in overtime eliminated Monaco’s prospects of qualifying for the Champions League, leaving them with a 4-3 overall loss in the penultimate round of qualifying.
